Last month I wrote a blog about a strange movie entitled The Legend of Lylah Clare. I was wondering if anyone caught on Saturday morning? If so, any opinons about it? I found the concept to be intriguing -- a lookalike actress set to star in a biographical movie about a former film legend who died tragically. In addition, this movie is to be directed by the late star's husband. However, The Legend of Lylah Clare fell WAY short in execution.
I spoke to my mother and a friend who viewed the movie. My mother thinks Kim Novak was not up to the part. In addition, she believes it bares the stigma of many films of the 1960's -- way too self indulgent to the point of being absurd and dated. My friend also felt Kim Novak was not the best fit for the part -- primarily due to her age. In addition, he felt Kirk Douglas would have been much better as Louis Zarken. His suggestion for the female lead was Maria Schell. However, he stated that Robert Aldrich still should have let someone else direct because he was too heavy handed in his handling of the material.
You already know my opinion from my article. Just thought I would share some other opinions!

Gilby, I'm a little late with my comment, but I hope you catch it. I was involved in your first conversation about Lylah Clare, so you know my thoughts too. And I totally agree with your friend that part of the problem was Kim Novak's age. However, I think that could have been helped by a better hairstyle and wardrobe, and a decent director to lead her. The changed her famous platinum blonde hair to that weird kind of red. Also, I have always thought Novak looked best wearing her hair up, short or pinned back. The bob style just doesn't do it!
